Jess + Andrew's Beautiful Eclectic Wedding in Downtown Denver
Soon after meeting Jess and Andrew, it became clear they have a special kind of love. They have a camaraderie that is built on mutual respect and understanding, and it was really beautiful to witness. I (Jess) shot this wedding solo this past fall, and my favorite part of the day was learning they were both adopting a new last name together - Fernquist. It (unfortunately) takes a rare groom to be willing to shed the old patriarchal custom of the bride giving up her own namesake. I so loved and respected their new take on an old and outdated tradition, and it would be really cool to see it happen more often. :)
New Name, New Beginnings
Matching their well-rounded personalities, Jess and Andrew had a modern/urban/boho celebration. Their ceremony and reception were both held at the eclectically-styled Mercury Café located in the heart of Denver, CO. The venue is a magical little gem that offers local, organic food paired with dancing, theater, and music for entertainment—definitely worth checking out if you’re ever in the area. I love that Andrew and Jess incorporated several varieties of ferns throughout the décor to symbolize their new name and marriage—a beautiful, subtle touch. The café is decorated both inside and out with several interesting, eye-catching painted murals that we used as backdrops.
Throughout their ceremony and reception, their personality shone in all the details: the hand-written notes and signs, their personalized vows, party favors, treats, and photos. The day truly was extraordinary for an extraordinary couple. Congratulations + all the best, Jess + Andrew.
